File compression is a term I've been hearing for years. I always knew what it meant...sort of, but could never really explain what was actually happening. One of the selling points of my camera was that it can shoot in Uncompressed Raw, which was supposed to get you even better image quality than shooting compressed. After watching and re-watching lesson 1.1.13 File Compression for clarity, I feel comfortable enough to know that I don't need to use that setting at all and I can save space on my memory card.
Glad 1.1.13 gave you knowledge and comfort level on file compression :-)
ReplyDeleteSo you don't notice or need the difference in photo quality between compressed vs. un-compressed raw?
If not, definitely save space on your camera's memory card ^_^
I'm so grateful for Drop Mail since at work sometimes I have to send big files and if I compress them sometimes compromises the quality of the architectural renderings. I really enjoyed this chapter.
ReplyDeleteBeing able to have the option to take uncompressed raw photos is amazing because it truly gives you a much better photo in the end. I'm glad this lesson helped you understand the difference between the two.
ReplyDeleteI agree that been able to compress file or picture is truly greats thing that can ever happen to modern world or even my job, Just the fact all day long my job requires me to send large file or pictures to get certain things done
ReplyDeleteI feel that in our society no one really thinks about how much technology can and has changed. My parents used floppy disks to hold files, now we can compress hundreds of items in one file. It's amazing!
ReplyDeleteKnowing your stuff can really save you a lot of money. Big companies are always trying to sell you unnecessary features.
ReplyDeleteI think it can do us all some good to be more knowledgeable on the intricacies of our technology. Especially when we are spending our hard-earned money on it. Technology is the future, after all, so we owe it to ourselves to know what it can do to the fullest extent.
ReplyDeleteI agree that uncompressed raw footage is better at developing high-quality images and speeds when compared to compressed raw. They both have their advantages.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see and know we all started to use skills that we learned through this class.
ReplyDeleteI always aim for more memory space rather than higher quality photos. Afterall, no one is seeing my photos except for Facebook haha!
ReplyDeleteThat is super cool, I agree on how I sort of know what file compression was, but now it makes sense.
ReplyDeleteI know that I'm in the same boat as you for the longest time i had no idea what the difference between compressed and uncompressed. and then after learning it's related to memory it's so much easier to remember.
ReplyDeleteThe option to compress files is great, whether you want to save space or achieve faster file transfers.
